South West Cornwall is a peninsular where the North and South Coast are separated by just 6 miles of land, with the Woodland Collection Cottages virtually right in the middle. It follows, therefore, that we are lucky enough to have many beautiful beaches within a few miles of the front door here, some of which are dog friendly all year round like Long Rock Beach, Porthkidney and Hayle Towans.
However, we are pleased to announce that in 2020, Cornwall Council relaxed restrictions on the times dog walkers can use MOST of our beaches and now only the Blue Flag beaches are restricted to dog walkers in July and August.
Following this relaxation of the rules, Visit Cornwall and Cornwall Council are working on guidelines to ensure that everyone can enjoy the beaches, whether they be a young family playing in the sand or walkers with their dogs. The guidelines encourage dog walkers to pick up after their dogs, keep them on leads in busier public areas and keep them under control when exercising them, so they don’t end up running off and stealing sandwiches or chasing surfers 😊 We try to find a quieter spot to let our dogs loose on the beach to avoid embarrassing moments…. Ahem ….
